POSITION SUMMARY:
To help special needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Kentucky Department of Education certification in the field of assignment.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Educators and meet the Teacher Standards as identified by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards as identified by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
- Strive to carry out the rules and regulations of the Board of Education. They are to make themselves familiar with administrative procedures and regulations, which relate to their individual duties and to the instruction and discipline of their own classes
- Utilizes a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing pupils, including remedial instruction, demonstration, and activity participation
- Review, analyze, and evaluate the history, background, and assessment of pupils in designing an educational program to meet individual educational needs
- Work cooperatively with the Admissions and Release Committee in assessing pupil needs and learning deficiencies, and develop alternative solutions to pupil learning difficulties
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of studies that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Plans differentiated instructional activities that are research-based in order to meet the needs of each student and provides written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
- Assesses the progress of students on a continual basis and makes changes as appropriate to instructional techniques utilized in order to promote student learning
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
- Seeks assistance of district specialists as required to assist in diagnosing learning disabilities of students and implements recommendations.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistant(s) and volunteer(s)
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees (SBDM and District) as required
- Reflects on the strengths and weakness of his/her personal performance as related to student achievement and readily discusses such performance with immediate supervisor
- Seeks and engages in professional development experiences that relate to the district/school’s improvement needs and the identified strengths/weakness of self
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- In order that the substitute may work as effectively as possible, the regular teacher should at all times leave his/her desk, class records and teaching plans in such order and with directions that the substitute can find material and information needed to carry on the work
- Meet other requirements as required by the current School Board Policies
- Must meet the requirements of a criminal record check(s) as specified by Kentucky State Law
- Must meet health requirements as specified in the district personnel policy
